Piñata Making: Fur Application

After the papier-mâché had dried and the limbs, tails and ears had been made and stuck on, the next step in the making process was to paint the piñatas black. This was because the woodgrain ‘fur’ was printed in black, so that any gaps would not expose the newsprint underneath.

While the paint dried, I cut the woodgrain-printed Hoshopaper into strips, which I then cut along, creating a paper fringe. I left some printed paper intact to glue to some areas that wouldn’t suit having the fringe attached. After the black paint had dried, I glued paper fringing onto the piñatas, creating ‘fur’.
